While we might all wish for something different, the reality is the aging is part of life. Much of the aging process is out of our control, but here are ten things you can do to manage your health as best you can as you grow older:

Eat Well
Seniors don’t have the same nutrition requirements as other adults. Adapting your diet to the specific needs of your aging body may prevent or delay many of the effects of aging.
Think A lot
Keeping your mind active helps you stay mentally sharp and alert. Learn new things, stay connected, and take advantage of the many ways that are available to train your brain.
Keep Moving
Physical activity is critical. While your older body might resist movement, it’s nevertheless important to keep moving. Simple activities such as walking, gardening, and even shopping will help your body healthy.
Make Your Home Safe
Aging in place safely and independently at home is possibly the most important thing you can do to improve the quality of your life as you grow older. This requires you to make accommodations to your home. Things like stairlifts, elevators, and wheelchair ramps for home will allow you to live at home even when mobility becomes difficult and prevent many injuries that are common among the elderly.
Stay Connected
A healthy, active social life promotes physical and mental well-being.
Get Some Sleep
Sleep deprivation is common among seniors as restlessness, insomnia, and daytime naps can make getting a good night’s sleep feel impossible. Talk to your doctor about things you can do to improve your sleep patterns and feel rested.
Go to the Doctor
Speaking of doctors, you need to visit yours regularly to keep tabs on your health.
Avoid Stress
Stress takes a toll on everybody, but your aging body can no longer afford the cost. Getting sleep, maintaining healthy connections, and pursuing relaxing hobbies and interests can help combat stress.
Avoid Illness
No one wants to get sick, but illness and aging are a bad combination. Mild bugs that merely slowed you down when you were younger can bring you to a complete stop when you’re old. Wash your hands, stay away from sick people (can you say grandkids?), and stay current on your vaccinations.
Take it Seriously
Aging is real, and it is happening to you. You cannot avoid its effects by ignoring, denying, or minimizing. The best way to age well is to meet the challenges head-on.
